Teaming in Tough Times

How business teams can handle challenging scenarios intelligently and powerfully

Nowadays, with the recession at hand, it feels like business is simply one long challenging scenario. There are tried and tested methods out there however, to assist business teams to overcome these challenges in smart ways.
Corporate Adventures has scanned the latest literature, locally and globally, to bring you the knowledge and skills discussed below. Happy Teaming!

Executive Summary

Handling challenges as a team requires habits, both individually as well as on a team level, in terms of common ways of doing, being and thinking. We need to create a team culture of intelligent thinking.

What habits are required?

  • Resilient mind sets. It is too easy to get demotivated and off track if thinking resiliently is not a habit! Resilience also encompassed the ability to LAUGH at oneself... finding humour in a dire challenge makes it so much easier to approach. Ala Harry Potters “Ridikulous” spell.
  • Asking what is the most intelligent thing to do right now? Not what is the easiest? What is the most cost effective? Get out of the silo! The most intelligent thing would be a clever and balanced combination of all the aspects that need to be considered. We need to get into the habit of making disciplined decisions based on all the available information. Systems thinking is key to survival in modern day business.
  • Make a habit of breaking bad habits! To be able to effectively handle challenging scenarios, we need to make sure we don’t fall into old traps. Thinking about your thinking is critical to be able to function effectively. Challenge team norms that are not working!
  • Flexibility. The world we exist in moves rather faster than it did 10 years ago.
Clients want it now, not later, your boss wants things done yesterday every day, and we have to do more with less... less time, less money, fewer resources. This requires flexibility in our thinking, moving out of rigid patterns and allowing our innovation and creative thinking to take over, within the framework of intelligent thinking.

Resilient Mind Sets

Resilience... what does it mean exactly?

Are we born with it?

Can I learn it?

Can teams be resilient? Is it essential to survival in today’s business world?
